School Age Educator / ECEA

Working as a member of the Centre’s team, you will work primarily with our School Age program, but will be expected to provide support as needed to the Centre's other programs:  3-5 group daycare and Kinder4 Me program. You will be joining a dedicated staff team that includes 2 ECEs, 2 ECEAs, and a Manager/ECE.

Qualifications: School Age Certificate

Additional Qualifications:

  1. ECEA certificate or Responsible Adult training (min. 20 hrs of training)
  2. Valid First Aid Certificate
  3. Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
  4. Responsible and 19 years of age or older
  5. Initiative taker and problem solver - ability to work independently
  6. Reliable (transportation to and from the Centre)

Required Experience:

  1. Previous experience working with young children; demonstrated ability to build connections with children.
  2. Minimum 1 year experience working with school-age children, and leading age-appropriate activities.
  3. Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, lead and implement School Age activities and experiences, including sporting games/activities, arts & crafts, interactive games, and community or school-based initiatives, including Summer Camps and field trips.
  2. Engage children (ages 3-12) in daily routines and activities/experiences.
  3. Encourage collaboration in group and social play and guide as necessary the children’s problem solving skills.
  4. Maintain program equipment, materials, and supplies, ensuring the respectful use of these.
  5. Follow the daily schedule and encourage physical activity of the children during gym or outside play time.
  6. Supervise the children to ensure safety during inside and outside play.
  7. Cleaning and sanitizing tables, furniture, toys, and dishes.
  8. Supporting meal, nap/quiet time.
  9. Recording the arrival and departure / release of the children.
  10. Maintain open and appropriate communication with families.
  11. Work collaboratively as part of a team.
  12. Adherence to the Centre's policies and procedures, reporting incidents as needed.
