Early Childhood Educator/Infant Toddler Educator (Maternity Leave)

  • Valid B.C. Early Childhood Educator Certificate issued by the B.C. Early Childhood Educator Registry
  • Infant/Toddler Educator certification is an asset
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification meeting Schedule C requirements of the B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Fluent English communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and respectfully with children, families, and co-workers
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while adapting to changing needs and priorities throughout the day
  • Commitment to developmentally appropriate, evidence-based early learning practices
  • Strong advocacy for children, families, and quality child care
  • Commitment to ongoing reflection, professional development, and growth
  • Open-minded, inclusive, and supportive of diversity
  • Applicants do not need to be Jewish; however, they must demonstrate respect for and a willingness to learn about and support Jewish values, traditions, culture, and history within the school community.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to safely perform the physical aspects of the role, including lifting and carrying children; supporting daily care routines; participating in indoor and outdoor play; and assisting with the setup, cleaning, and maintenance of program spaces and equipment

Required Experience:

  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in licensed group child care, providing similar services to children and families
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers is preferred
  • Strong understanding of emergent curriculum, play-based learning, the BC Early Learning Framework, and/or Reggio Emilia–inspired practice
  • Knowledge of the BC Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR)
  • Ability to provide a minimum of two character references

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with a team of Educators, provide quality care, responsive programming and a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Uphold RJDS Early Learning Centre values in the child care environment and programming
  • Establish and maintain positive daily communication and interactions with families and co-workers.
  • Respecfully attend to children’s physical and emotional needs
  • Light housekeeping duties
  • Maintain the RJDS Early Learning Centre's policies and procedures, as well as the BC Child Care Regulations in accordance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act
  • Follow individual care plans and maintain collaborative relationships with other community service providers
  • Applicants do not need to be Jewish; however, they must demonstrate genuine respect for Jewish identity, values, traditions, culture, history, and the diverse ways in which individuals and families experience and express their Jewish identity, including connections to Israel. They must also be committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment that honours the rich diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences represented throughout our school community.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $21–$25 per hour, plus the provincial $6-per-hour ECE wage enhancement
  • The hourly base rate is on a sliding scale and determined by relevant education and experience
  • Consistent semi-monthly pay
  • Up to 12 paid sick days per year
  • Paid vacation, including 10 flexible vacation days plus paid time off during seasonal facility closures

  • Full-time, 12-month maternity leave contract
  • Anticipated start date: August 31, 2026
  • Primary age group: Infants and toddlers
  • Eight-hour shifts, plus a 30-minute unpaid break, scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Occasional flexibility to adjust shift times is required
