Substitute - Infant & Toddler and 3-5 Year Old Programs
This job position of Auxiliary/Subsitute is to work with both infant & toddlers and 3-5-year-old children. Our infnat & toddler and 3-5 programs are located at the same location but opperate in different spaces.
Additional Qualifications:
- Early Childhood Educator Assistant Certificate to Practice. Additional ECE certifications such as a full Early Childhood Educator Certificate is preferred.
- At least one year experience working with children in a licenced child care setting.
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Consent to Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to multi-task and reassess priorities throughout the day.
- Statement from medical practitioner indicating good physical and psychological ability to work with children.
- Proof of immunization and tuberculosis vaccinations.
- Positive team player; flexible, punctual, reliable with good communication skills.
- Shows motivation when working with children and in their growth and success.
- Enjoys communicating and interacting with children.
Key Responsibilities:
Administration
- Follow all McGregor’s policies & procedures, licensing and legal requirements.
- Ensure all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the centre, children, families and staff.
- Complete all required daily shift duties with efficiency.
- Preform other duties as directed.
- Working with the staff team to promote the growth and integration of child requiring extra supports.
Teamwork
- Follow all direction provided by the Regular staff, Supervisor and Manager.
- Establish and maintain respectful, positive, collaborative, supportive working relationships with all co-workers.
- Work with reasonable autonomy and independence in arranging materials and ideas for the children, under the direction of the Program Staff.
Program Development
- Notice, record and collect children’s interactions with their surroundings, materials activities, discoveries and growth and share these observations with program staff.
- Arrange the physical set up of the centre and maintain a stimulating, neat, orderly, safe and clean environment.
- All interactions must align with the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
Child Growth & Development
- Interact directly with the children, providing and creating positive attachments.
- Understand each child’s unique personality and respond and replicate a caring and compassionate relationship with collaborative dialogue and actions.
- Provide each child with opportunities and supports to navigate all developmental domains with a focus on self-help skills, Language and communication and development in ethe areas of physical, cognitive and social and emotional development.
- Establish clear boundaries, consistent and simple expectations and limits with children.
Salary & Benefits:
Working conditions
All work will be dependent on the needs of McGregor Child Care. Shifts may be as short as 4 hours in length, up to 7.5 hours in length.
Start and end times of each shift will vary between starting at 7:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm.
McGregor. McGregor is closed for statutory holidays and weekends. McGregor is also closed for a short period over the winter holidays.
Wages
Hours wages for this position are from $18.54 per hour to $19.12 per hour. Current Wage Enhancement funds offered by the government of BC are in addition to the wages mentioned.
Workload
Auxiliaries’ will mostly be focusing on housecleaning duties but are required to work directly with the children when directed.

Job purpose
Reporting to the Regular Program Staff and manager, the ECE(A) will work directly with children aged 6 months to 5 years of age in a group setting. With support from the program staff, the Auxiliary ECE(A) will use their knowledge and skills to assist in creating an environment that supports children’s developmental growth and well-being.
Physical requirements
All staff are expected to frequently interact, care for and play with the children. This includes lifting up to 30 lbs, bending while holding up to 30 lbs, frequent bending, sitting and lying on the floor, squatting, standing for long periods of time and light exercise such as running, dancing, throwing, kicking and jumping.
