A Year with the BC Early Learning Framework - Article by Maryam Naddaf

Maryam Naddaf’s A Year with the BC Early Learning Framework was a year-long professional development initiative designed to help early childhood educators move beyond theory and bring BCELF principles into daily practice. Combining online and in-person sessions, the program emphasized critical reflection, collaborative learning, and hands-on experiences. Over three years, educators reported profound shifts in mindset—developing trust in children’s autonomy, embracing reflective practice, and building strong pedagogical networks.

Despite its success, systemic challenges such as limited time, funding, and outdated regulations remain barriers to widespread adoption. Maryam calls for structural changes and continued investment to sustain programs like this, which empower educators as advocates and lifelong learners.
