The Need for Quality Care

The Need for Quality Care

"Building a child-care system is more than a labour market strategy. Sure, we need spaces. But we need quality spaces. Building for quality starts with a well-paid, well-educated workforce and age-appropriate environments." Our Executive Director, Pam Preston on the need for quality child care.

Excursions are intended to provide children with opportunities to “experience the world.”

It is well documented that young children learn through play and the fun and excitement of a day outside the classroom can be a catalyst for real engagement, not only with learning topics but also with their community, the world around them and each other.

Finding child care can be confusing, especially in a city like ours where over 16,000 additional spaces are needed.

Each year, our Parent Services Team respond to over 7,000 requests from parents in Vancouver and help over 1,600 families to apply for financial assistance to help them pay for their child care.

We have full lists of child care providers and vacancies around the city, and can help you understand your options and work out what type of child care will work best for your family.

Yesterday there was an important announcement about a partnership between the Province of BC and the City of Vancouver to develop 2,300 new child care spaces in public buildings such as schools and community centres. This announcement is in line with the Province's Child Care BC initiative to build the components of a publicly funded system for early learning and care.
