  2. The workshop/course will take place via Zoom. A link for all sessions will be emailed to you a day before the workshop.

  3. Check your email settings and your spam folder.

  4. If you are new to Zoom watch the video How to Join a Zoom Meeting. You do not need to download Zoom to attend, but access may be quicker when logged in to Zoom. You can download Zoom for free.

All settlers on this land we call ‘Canada’ are immigrants. Our chosen home welcomes well over 300,000 families a year. It is thus imperative that we as Educators bridge professional silos, address systemic racism and uphold diversity. During this workshop participants will acknowledge the unique challenges newcomer families and children experience and appreciate the importance of customizing their policies to ensure that people of diverse backgrounds and experiences feel welcome. We will also identify gaps that exist for neurodivergent newcomers and understand how to connect them to various community services.

Living Inquiries:

  • Well-being and belonging

  • Engagement with others, materials and the world.

  • Identities, social responsibilities and diversity.

Pathways:

  • Culture and worldviews.

  • Diversity and difference.

  • Safety and respect.

  • Every child is a gift.

  • Local community connections.

  • Family origins, cultural background, place of origin, allegiance and affiliation, citizenship, and other identities.

  • Democratic practices.

  • Social responsibility and justice.

Suitable for students and novice, intermediate and experienced early care and learning professionals working with children of all ages, from infants/toddlers to school age children, including children with extra support needs.

Facilitator: Nadia Rabierad. An immigrant herself, Nadia has bridged her background in clinical psychology with her passion for early childhood education. She is currently a regional childcare manager at MOSAIC and has worked closely with newcomer families for over a decade. Nadia participates actively in the community and has served on both the VCC Program Advisory Committee and the BC Centre for Ability Advisory Committee.
