I Said No, Now What? Mastering the Art of Follow-Through (4810-8100)
Online Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Children don’t test limits to be defiant—they test limits to understand safety, relationships, and how adults respond when things feel uncertain. This workshop offers educators a calm, practical framework for holding boundaries in a way that protects a child’s sense of well-being and belonging. Together, we’ll explore how predictable follow-through supports emotional regulation, reduces power struggles, and strengthens the educator–child relationship. This workshop will explore:
- Why children naturally push boundaries?
- How consistent, steady follow-through builds trust, safety, and connection.
- Simple, respectful language and scripts that guide children through resistance without escalating conflict.
- Ways to stay grounded when big feelings show up — for both, the child and the adult.
- Real classroom scenarios that highlight how to apply these strategies with different ages, temperaments, and needs.
Living Inquiries:
- Well-being and belonging
- Identities, social responsibility and diversity
Pathways:
- Safety and respect: How consistent, calm follow-through helps children feel safe and understand what to expect.
- Emotions, thoughts, and views: Supporting children through emotional reactions when boundaries are held.
- Social responsibility and justice: Understanding how limits help children learn fairness, cooperation, and responsibility within a group.
- Individual differences: Recognizing how children express resistance differently and adapting follow-through to support each child.
Suitable for ECE students, parents, adult instructors/administrators, intermediate and experienced early care and learning professionals working with preschool children.
