Bring more movement into your day with active play!
Join this workshop which helps early learning professionals confidently integrate active play into daily routines—indoors and outdoors—using approaches that are realistic and easy to apply in child care environments. Learn Through Active Play supports children’s overall development while helping educators feel more connected, capable, and empowered in their work. The workshop is engaging, collaborative, and rooted in the everyday experiences of early learning professionals. Participants will leave with practical tools, follow-up resources, and access to ongoing support that makes active play easier to embed in everyday programming.

Living Inquiries:

  • Well-being and belonging.

  • Communication and literacies

Pathways:

  • Well-being and Belonging
Framework focus: Safety, health, physical development, relationships, and sense of belonging.
    1) LTAP directly supports children’s physical and mental well-being by embedding daily opportunities for active play that improve physical health, motor skills, and self-regulation.
    2) Educators learn strategies to create inclusive play that fosters belonging — for example, adapting activities so all children can participate regardless of ability or background.
    3) By leading active play with intention, educators strengthen relationships through shared enjoyment, cooperation, and mutual respect.

  • Communication and Literacies
Framework focus: Expressing ideas, understanding others, and using multiple forms of literacy.
    1) Active play activities integrate storytelling, role play, and music, giving children diverse ways to communicate.
    2) Movement-based games help children interpret and follow instructions, fostering receptive language and comprehension skills.

Suitable for ECE students, adult instructors/administrators, intermediate and experienced early care and learning professionals working with toddler and preschool age children.
