Supporting Children's Identities, Family Structures & Cultural Identities in Our Programs
Online Saturday November 19, 2022 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm 3 hours (4-hour certificate)
Prerequisite: Participants must watch the documentary film ‘One of Ours’ (1:28:32) available free on CBC Gem before attending the workshop, as it will be the baseline for this workshop’s discussions and activities.
This workshop includes a discussion with filmmaker Yasmine Mathurin, who created the documentary film ‘One of Ours’, a poetic observational look at reconciliation and belonging through the eyes of a young Haitian-born Indigenous adoptee in Canada. It celebrates diversity, family, and helps us navigate through trauma. Participants will explore family dynamics, how to support diverse families and children, find and embrace their unique cultural identities and confidence. Incorporating what this documentary has to offer, will empower educators as well as our child care communities, guiding us on how to be their voice and representation, when families and children may need our insight and courage.
