Additional Qualifications:

The most sought-after candidates will have their Early Childhood Educator License to Practice, will have or be working towards a degree in Early Childhood Care and Education, or meet the qualifications of a Responsible Adult: be at least 19 years of age; able to provide care and mature guidance to children; have completed a course or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition; and have relevant work experience.

Required Experience:

We seek candidates who have a commitment to reflective work with children, an eagerness to collaborate with other educators and researchers, a commitment to ongoing professional development and growth, a dedication to inclusive practice, and a disposition towards research and inquiry. Candidates will be fluent and experienced in pedagogical narration as practice and have a strong understanding of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework.

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking educators who are passionate, creative, intentional, and reflective in their work with children. Working closely with researchers and other educators on the SFUCCS team requires an ability to be flexible, vulnerable, open to critique, appreciative of the value of co-construction, and welcoming of the multiple perspectives of children, families, and professionals. We seek educators who are eager to grow in their practice as learners, educators, facilitators, early childhood professionals, and overall advocates for children, families, and the profession of Early Childhood Education.

Salary & Benefits:

Starting salary for Casual Educators is $16.46 per hour (plus an additional $1/hour for licensed ECE’s as per the ECE Wage Enhancement Initiative. More info: www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/family-social-supports/caring-for-young-children/recr plus 8% vacation pay and paid parking.

Additional Notes:

Employees who are chosen will be expected to attend SFU Childcare Society’s in-house training. SFU Childcare staff are members of the BCGEU.
