Family Worker - Early Years

Our Family and Children’s Program opened in Spring 2022 and supports families with children aged newborn to 11 years old. To start, we will be offering an early years program.

We will offer a variety of activities that foster social-emotional learning, offer opportunities to experience and explore indoor and outdoor spaces and strengthen parenting knowledge and skills.

We provide opportunities for children and adults to come together to learn and connect in a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally safe environment.

Qualifications: Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

  • ECE, or ECE Assistant or Resposible Adult Certificate required, or an equivalent accreditation or certification.
  • Infant Development and Supported Child Development (IDSC), or Family Resource Practitioner (FRP) is an asset.
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate with infant/toddler certification.
  • FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate an asset.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year recent experience in program delivery and facilitation in a frontline role, working with children newborn to 5 years old and their families, in a play-based, family-centred setting.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups including Indigenous children and families is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team to plan and implement a quality program for young children, maintain healthy. relationships and communicate effectively and respectfully with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Supervise children and families to ensure a safe environment.
  • Creates and maintains a welcoming, emotionally safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Models positive adult-child interactions that promote intellectual, healthy social and emotional development.
  • Ensures sign-in sheets contain the required information and communicate with all staff members important information from families such as allergies.
  • Works with both families and children in small groups and/or one-to-one as appropriate, to encourage engagement in activities and interactions with peers, to enhance social, emotional, motor, and cognitive development.
  • Creates opportunities for families to acquire and practice positive parenting skills in a safe supportive environment.
  • Maintains outlined health and safety standards.
  • Works with staff team to maintain appropriate supplies and resources for the programs. 
  • Liaises with the Program Coordinator in making referrals to community resources and in promoting and supporting parent-helping-parent initiatives as appropriate.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of special events as required.
  • Fulfills other duties as required to support day-to-day program operations.

Salary & Benefits:

Wage Range: $21/hour - $24/hour

Benefits: An extended health benefits package is available following 3 months of consecutive employment and successful completion of a 3-month probationary review.

Vacation: 15 working days per year prorated for part-time employees
