Director of Childcare – 35 hours per week Full-Time position. This is a Hybrid position. This is a non-union management position that will be joining Kiwassa’s growing leadership team.
Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.
Job Summary: The Director of Childcare has operational responsibility for the licensed Child Care Programs. This includes staffing, people leadership and employee relations; programming and service excellence; budget and financial management; and grant-writing and reporting. This role is a member of the leadership team. The team participates in strategic planning and collaborates to build and implement solutions to address opportunities, collectively respond to community needs and appropriately resource the organization.

Required Experience:
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of management experience within the not-for-profit sector or equivalent experience.
- Relevant post-secondary education: an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Early Childhood Education Certificate is an asset.
- Proven track record of effectively leading and scaling an outcomes-based department and staff.
- Proven leadership and applied coaching skills in mentoring direct reports.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a childcare setting or related service.
- Ability to work with diverse populations within a multicultural context.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Clean Criminal record check

- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget
- Action-oriented, adaptable and innovative approach to planning
- Computer skills – MS Office applications, ability to use various databases and online systems
- Grant writing experience
- Solid, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
- Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
- An innovative mindset and learning orientation
- Demonstrated passion, compassion and commitment for the mission of Kiwassa Neighbourhood House
Key Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Childcare Program Management
- Enhance high-quality and sustainable childcare programs by supporting staff to plan, develop, and implement programs that align with the BC Early Learning Framework and respond to the needs and context of local families.
- Ensures that childcare programs meet and maintain BC Childcare Licensing requirements.
- Connect and collaborate with private, public, and non-profit organizations to identify partnership opportunities and engage staff, volunteers, community members, and partners in our work.
- Represent the organization in the community, working groups, and committees as appropriate.
People Leadership
- Provide leadership, support, and coaching to diverse, intersecting teams to ensure program and individual outcomes are developed, implemented, and achieved.
- Help deepen staff, organizational, and community engagement that advances racial, economic, and gender equity through the ways we work, and how we work.
- Lead the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new staff.
- Create opportunities that support professional learning, growth, and wellness of individuals and teams.
Financial Management
- Write, edit, and facilitate the development of funding proposals and contracts to support the financial sustainability of existing and new programs and services.
- Ensure reporting expectations to funders are being tracked and fulfilled, on time.
- Develop, monitor, and manage program budgets, grants, and reporting requirements.
Leadership
- Actively model approaches of collaborative leadership that reflect a philosophy of “leader as learner” and embraces intersectional and decolonizing approaches.
- Support staff-led committees to enhance Kiwassa’s programs and culture.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Kiwassa’s strategic framework and support all staff in collectively realizing a shared organizational vision.
- Promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working culture for staff and volunteers that reflects the organization’s values and supports a sense of belonging.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary: $70,578 - $91,336
