Manager, Childcare – 35 hours per week Full-Time position. This is a Hybrid position with one Work-From-Home Day per week. This is a non-union management position that will be joining Kiwassa’s growing leadership team.
Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.
We are seeking a Childcare Manager to join Kiwassa. The individual is a passionate, enthusiastic and experienced manager to work in and enhance high-quality and sustainable family, childcare programs. This role will focus on supporting staff to plan, develop and implement strategies that respond to the local needs of our community. This role will connect and collaborate with private, public, and non-profit organizations to engage staff, volunteers, community members and partners in our work. This role will include assisting with staff recruitment, coordinating the casual pool of ECE substitutes, and overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive staff development program.

Required Experience:
Education and Knowledge
- At least 5 years of experience working with children and youth within the not-for-profit sector or equivalent experience.
- First Aid certificate as required
Training and Experience
- Supervisory experience in a licensed childcare
- Experience working with multicultural settings and newcomers and/or community-based programs
- Experience working with multicultural settings and newcomers and/or community-based programs
- Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and supporting the development of employees and volunteers within a diverse work and community context.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to write coherent proposals and reports and to articulate, reframe and present complex ideas and messages.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build and nurture internal and external relationships.
- Experience developing and managing program budgets and financial reports.
- Demonstrated program development, evaluation, and grant-writing skills.
- Ability to think strategically, to plan, organize, and execute effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities for this role include:
- Plans and implements activities and experiences for individual and group needs with consideration for multicultural, inclusive, developmentally appropriate activities.
- Provides resources, referrals and connections where necessary.
- Collaborates with Out of School Care Coordinator to create summer and spring break programming - supports with booking activities/maintaining relationships and managing budget
- Stays up to date with professional development and early learning frameworks looking for innovative and appropriate activities to engage participants
- Provide leadership, support, and coaching to diverse, intersecting teams to ensure program and individual outcomes are developed, implemented, and achieved.
- Help deepen staff, organizational, and community engagement that advances racial, economic, and gender equity through the ways we work, and how we work.
- Lead the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new staff.
- Collaborates with the Inclusion Coordinator to recruit, hire, and maintain an adequate Casual List for on call educators
- Create opportunities that support professional learning, growth, and wellness of individuals and teams.
- Ensures that all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained as per licensing and Kiwassa requirements.
- Reads, understands and follows all provincial requirements and standards and ensures team is proficient in meeting and maintaining them.
- Ensures all policies and procedures pertaining to program spaces are met and maintained.
- Ensure staff credentials are up to date.
- Reviews and collaborates with Directors of Childcare to ensure policies and procedures reflect current best practices in licensing
- Other duties, as assigned
This role will report to the Director of Childcare.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary: $59,337 - $76,789 Annually
