EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Diploma and ECE Certificate 

  2. At least 2 years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current child care practice, issues, trends, community resources and related government structures.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Care Facilities Licensing Regulations, and the role of Community Care Licensing with respect to child care and other early childhood development programs.

  • Demonstrated understanding of family child care and the role it plays in the continuum of child care.

  • Demonstrated competency for and understanding of a community development approach and community based service delivery.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cultural and family diversity and understanding of multiple barriers to accessing services.

  • Ability to respect and work with a diverse range of staff, partners, and community members including families of all backgrounds and abilities.

  • Ability to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.

  • Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity.

  • Ability to provide an objective assessment and consultation for clients.

  • Proficiency in written, oral and interpersonal communication.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in making oral presentations or willingness to develop presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with computer applications (particularly: WORD, Excel, G-suite applications, Internet and various Social media platforms)

  • Use of own vehicle or appropriate alternative transportation required.

**This position requires the ability to meet with caregivers in a variety of community settings including family child care homes on a regular schedule. Some evening hours may be required.**

Key Responsibilities:

We invite expressions of interest for a Child Care and Parent Services Consultant position effective immediately.  Under the direction of the Director of Programs, the Child Care and Parent Services Consultant is responsible for supporting the recruitment, training, and registration of Licensed-Not-Required Family Child Care Providers in the City of Vancouver and responding to enquiries from families, the child care community and the general public on a wide range of issues regarding early care and learning which includes conducting referrals for families seeking child care.

Highlights of responsibilities include:

  1. Respond to general enquiries from families, the child care community and the public seeking information on issues related to children and families and makes referrals to the appropriate resources as necessary.

  2. Refers parents to other resources in the community including MCFD, multicultural agencies, government agents and other child care related services.

  3. Maintains a working knowledge of the CCRR Registry Data Base program and provides updates for all licensed facilities in the database.

  4. Assists parents and care providers in completing Affordable Child Care Benefit applications and provides assistance with the public computer. 

  5. Liaises with MCFD and other government agents involved in the implementation of the Affordable Child Care Benefit Program. 

  6. Schedule and deliver information sessions regarding choosing early care and learning options for parents in Vancouver.

  7. In consultation with the Child Care Services Team, and in keeping with the CCRR Service Standards:

    1. Plans for and implements information sharing, membership development, intake and recruitment activities, and registration of License-Not-Required Family Child Care Providers.

    2. Conducts Health & Safety Home Assessment reviews and provides office consultations, ongoing home visits and telephone support for Registered License Not Required family child care providers.

  8. Assists in the development and implementation of additional educational and support strategies for License-Not-Required Family Child Care Providers including workshops, caregiver networking, and caregiver-child drop in events.

    1. Assists in the planning and implementation of special events as needed.

  9. Responds to inquiries from the general public on a range of child care and child development topics and issues including requests for information from those interested in starting and operating licensed early childhood care and learning programs.

  10.  Provides support to Licensed Child Care Facilities in Vancouver and facilitates access to Westcoast    resources as necessary and appropriate.

  11. In consultation with the Director of Programs, and in cooperation with other Westcoast programs, provides support as needed for the development and staffing of community displays/trade shows and conferences.

  12.  Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

  13.  Makes recommendations with regard to the development of the program and participates in program evaluations.

  14.  Represents the program and Westcoast in the child care and broader communities.

  15.  Performs other related duties as required.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: Grid 12, $22.02 - $25.65 per hour.
