Early Childhood Educator

Reporting to the Principal, the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will be responsible for providing care and programming to a group of typically hearing children enrolled at Children’s Hearing and Speech Centre. Our programs provide high quality care and creative programming for children with hearing loss and other complex needs. Working in collaboration with our Early Childhood Team which includesTeachers of the Deaf, Speech Language Pathologists and other ECE’s, this position is responsible for supporting children in the Centre’s licensed and academic programs as well providing care in the Centre’s Out of School Care program. Children at the Centre are typically aged 3 years to grade 3. ECE’s will ensure that children are well supervised and are provided developmentally and academically appropriate programing in keeping with the Centre’sphilosophy of promoting listening and spoken language development in children.

 

The Out of School Care leader is responsible for providing programming and supervision of children after school, Monday to Friday from 3.00 to 4.45.

Qualifications: Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate
  • Current BC License to Practice
  • Documentation in accordance with Community Care Facilities Branch licensing requirements
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience serving children in a licensed program
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required

Required Experience:

  • Infant/Toddler Educator Certificate, Special Needs Educator Certificate, or additionalcourses/ training related to child growth and development are assets
  • Experience working with children in a child care/educational/recreational setting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues, parents, and community members
  • Excellent organizational skills and early childhood programing creation and facilitation
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a team

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising children in the classroom and on the playground
  • Supervision of children attending our out of school program
  • Taking part in school activities during work hours and occasionally after hours
  • Collaborating in the preparation of teaching materials, art and other activiites
  • Provide positive behavioural support in collaboration with individual children’s learning teams
  • Supporting social development
  • Participate in professional development to keep certification current

Salary & Benefits:

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
