Acting as a bridge between Canada and Japan on an international level, as well as between local Japanese Canadian and multicultural communities, we operate to provide Japanese language and cultural education, through our innovative and unique programming.  Our early childhood education program, Kodomo no Kuni exposes pre-schoolers to a second language at the earliest possible age and provides a Japanese language/culture-enriched day-school program.

We are looking to add to our dedicated team of educators.  Reporting to the Children’s World Manager, the incumbent works with the child-care staff to provide safe, quality and inclusive child-care programming for children in a group setting.

Requires valid Basic ECE or ECEA licence

  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate

Required Experience:

  • Fluency in both Japanese and English languages;  
  • Knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework and BC Childcare Licensing Regulations;  
  • Able to provide reflective and emergent curriculum;  
  • Strong communication and team building skills;  
  • Enjoys working in an inclusive and diverse community;  
  • Passion for professional development and growth;  
  • Some experience working in a licensed childcare facility is preferred. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide opportunities for child-directed play and exploration; facilitate age-appropriate circle time using varied materials (e.g., books, flannel stories, puppets, props).  
  • Use observations to expand play and plan activities that recognize individual needs; support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of developmentally appropriate activities.  
  • Work cooperatively with the centre Manager and staff team to support inclusive practice and address the needs of individual children. Collaborate with families and participate in developing, reviewing, and implementing individual support plans.  
  • Ensure child-care environment is healthy and safe; promptly report and document accidents, injuries, illnesses, and incidents (including suspected abuse) and maintain up-to-date records (allergies, medical conditions, authorized pick-up).  
  • Follow the licensing requirements and the centre’s procedures; adhere to organizational policies and procedures (including confidentiality and privacy).  
  • Is welcoming of the multiple perspectives of children, families & professionals; promote cultural awareness, anti-racism, and gender-inclusive practices through programming.  
  • Is committed to professional development and growth; engage in annual performance reviews and professional development planning.  
  • Participate in short- and long-term planning, evaluation and the annual program review; attend staff meetings and participate in program planning and evaluation as scheduled. 

Salary & Benefits:

Wage from $22.00 or $25.00 per hour based $10aDay wage grid. 

Paid professional development opportunities

Additional Notes:

Monday to Friday 35 hrs/week (possibly Saturdays for 4 hours)

Various shifts between 9 am to 5:30 pm with paid breaks
