Preschool Teacher

Job Description:* Douglas Park Community Association is seeking a Preschool Teacher to work closely and cooperatively with the Douglas Park Preschool Team. The suitable candidate will be an enthusiastic, energetic team player that can adapt well to change. The applicant will have strengths in planning and implementation of a mainstream preschool program for typical children and children who require additional support. 

The successful candidate will be part of a co-teaching team in the classroom with shared responsibilities and expectations.*

There are 2 vacancies for the Preschool Teacher position. One of the positions will start at 7:30am on Mon/Wed/Fri. One of the positions is also a solo teacher position for 3 afternoons/week with a max of 8 children (this can be supported/mentored by the Preschool Head teacher as needed).

Position placement will be decided upon by the Childcare Coordinator and Preschool Head Teacher.

Qualifications: Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Program Certification and Valid First Aid Certification
  • Meet licensing requirements of the Community Care Facilities Licensing

Required Experience:


  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a preschool setting. Additional years in other childcare settings would be an asset
  • Excellent and Professional Communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated experience working in an inclusive setting
  • An Understanding of Emergent Curriculum

Key Responsibilities:


  • To plan and implement a program for three and four year olds that is suitable for structured and unstructured group play
  • To work collaboratively with the other classroom Teacher for implementation of curriculum, supervision and safety of children, communication with parents, ensuring licensing regulations are being followed and met at a classroom level
  • To contribute positively to the overall operation of the preschool and community centre as a whole
  • To use constructive disciplinary techniques that will maintain positive self-esteem and self- worth as outlined in the philosophy and parent manual
  • To maintain open communication with children, staff, parents and community liaisons
  • To participate openly and actively in regularly scheduled internal meetings with Head Teacher and Coordinator
  • To provide children with positive guidance, support and be a positive role model
  • To assist with the organization and preparation and delivery of activities and other duties related to the position
  • Must be knowledgeable in assisting in the planning and implementing of a program that is developmentally appropriate and is adaptable to the need and ideas of the children

The successful candidate is directly responsible to the Licensed Child Care Coordinator but will work closely with other Teachers and take direct delegation of tasks from the Head Teacher at the classroom level.
